1. You are celebrating 20 years with KES this February. That's a big achievement! How has your career evolved over the years and is there any advice you would give to those entering the workforce?

I started my career in IT addressing technical issues and fixing computers. It was a great learning experience, but it was a reactive role. As I moved into the ERP space I spent more time helping clients gain value from their software. Finally, when I became a NetSuite consultant, I moved into a role of proactively helping clients evolve and grow by partnering with them to improve their business efficiency. Within KES, I grew from an entry-level consultant to a member of the leadership team who helps steer the future direction of the company.

I was fortunate to have wonderful professors at Trevecca Nazarene University who helped me transition from the classroom into the job market. If you're still in college, leverage those relationships with your professors. They have connections that can help you get your first job. I would advise young professionals to set goals and carve out time everyday to work on achieving those goals. Look for a good mentor. They can help you identify and set career goals, build confidence in professional settings, and develop your technical skills.

2. As a consultant with previous IT and on-premise ERP experience, what factors led to your transition to the Cloud ERP space?

I spent many years working with clients on end-user computer issues and helping with break/fix support. While I enjoyed building relationships with clients, I realized the break/fix framework was not moving the customer’s business forward in any significant way. It was a short-term fix and did not address the source of the problem or enable the business for sustainable growth. With a Cloud ERP, specifically NetSuite, we take an entirely different approach. Instead of putting a band-aid on business challenges, we work with clients to identify and overcome inefficiencies, so they have the software and processes in place to finally get traction and grow their business.

3. What advice do you have for companies hesitant to move to a Cloud ERP solution?

Don’t hesitate to give it serious thought. Be sure to consider the efficiencies gained by removing the technical layer that is involved with an on-premise platform. Simply being able to access your ERP system by a web browser for your daily functions brings instant value, especially considering today's large remote workforce. By continuing to operate your business with an on-premise ERP, you must consider the time and costs involved for software installation, end-user issues, and system upgrades. In my opinion, there is truly no comparison.

4. In your opinion, what makes someone a good NetSuite consultant?

The ability to step into a client’s shoes and see things from their perspective. For me specifically, I’ve been told I’m a good listener, which I believe is highly valuable when it comes to working directly with clients, especially on projects where training is a big focus.

Through our true partner approach, we help our clients customize their NetSuite instance to meet their needs and/or implement KES NetSuite Extensions or third-party add-ons to fill in the functionality gaps. We value building strong, long-term relationships with clients, so we can collaborate on the impact of company changes and ensure they continue to get the most out of their investment. At the end of the day, our ultimate goal is doing what is best for the client.

6. What are you seeing at KES that is particularly exciting?

Without question, our KES NetSuite Extensions and the value they bring to NetSuite users. We have an extremely talented team of developers that have created specialized product solutions to extend standard NetSuite functionality. After working with clients for years and seeing the same issues repeatedly, it’s super exciting to package these solutions in a cost-effective way for our clients. Our NetSuite Extensions are a true testament to the experience and knowledge of the KES team and their dedication to bringing efficiency to our clients.

7. What do you like to do outside of work?

I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends and I’m usually the first person in our family to suggest a trip to the beach.
